It's almost D-Day!!

It's official - the baby is coming April 1st (unless of course he decides he wants to come a little earlier)! We saw the doctor on Monday and we're scheduled to be at the hospital at 6:30am on Friday, April 1. First, after we get settled and they monitor the baby for a bit, Dr. Evans will try to turn the baby, called versioning, from his comfy frank breech position. There is a 50% success rate. If the versioning is successful, they'll induce labor. If they're unable to turn the baby, they'll schedule a c-section for the same day. So it's a little up in the air as to how he will arrive, but we know we'll be holding him in a few days! We're very excited! I've been preparing myself for a c-section so much so that I find myself planning on having one. Of course I'd be more than happy to be induced instead.

I believe we're ready to welcome the new baby into the world. We just need to get Luke packed to stay with my parents while we're at the hospital, and Jim still needs to pack. We've been trying to enjoy these last few days as just us three...soon our family dynamic will be rocked to the core. It'll be interesting to see how Luke will handle the new baby. We've been trying to prepare him by talking about the baby and including him in prepping for the baby...but it's hard to say how much he truly understands.

Anyways, here are a few pictures from the past week or so.

Aunt Jess and Luke playing a game on dad's new iPad. Soon Luke will be better at using all the gadgets than we are!

Luke in his new "big boy" room. He's been sleeping in his "big boy" bed for a week and a 1/2 now and has been doing great! He also loves the "ABCs" (hence the wall decals) and can sing most of it with us...as well as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

He's such a guy - ha!

Last Friday at 38 weeks! As you can probably tell baby hasn't dropped very much....which is normal for breech babies. So my lung capacity feels teeny!

Basketball, swim lessons and Swansons visit

A few weekends ago, we took Luke to his first basketball game - Creighton vs UNI. He enjoyed the popcorn more than the game, but still had a good time! He likes playing basketball at home with Dad and watching it on tv sometimes, so we though he'd like seeing a live game.

We started Luke in swim lessons again and he's loving it (the first attempt over a year ago did not go well)! He doesn't like when dad dunks him during "ring around the rosie" and he prefers the shallow end where he can stand up on his own instead of being held in the deeper end. He's not really learning to swim, he's just getting more comfortable being in the water. Jim and Luke both have a blast playing in the water together...can't wait to swim at mom and dad's lake!
Luke loves putting together puzzles and has gotten so good at them. He can easily put together his puzzles without any help....but he likes when Jim and I "help" him. He also likes to lay like daddy with a pillow under him. :)
Last weekend Neil, Mary Jo and Tara visited. We had a great time! We went to the Durham Western Heritage Museum where Luke liked looking at the trains. Here's most of the gang after walking through the museum.
Grandma and Grandpa gave Luke a Vikings uniform...he loves putting on the helmet and tackling who ever happens to be around.

Baby update: On Thursday (at 35 weeks, 6 days) I went in for a non-stress test and doctor appointment. The monitor was picking up some pretty regular and mild contractions...I hadn't noticed them earlier in the day so wasn't sure when they started. The doctor checked me (1 cm dilated) and then we confirmed with an ultrasound that the baby is breech. He was breech during our 32 week ultrasound but usually they will flip to the heads down position. We still have a couple weeks for him to turn.... The doctor said at 37 1/2 weeks when I see her again, if he hasn't flipped we can try to have her turn him by basically pushing on my tummy (a procedure called external cephalic version). I'd have to check into the hospital and (I've read on google) give me some pain meds and maybe something to relaxy my uterus to make it easier for her to turn him. She said this is 50% successful. IF this doesn't work then we'd have to schedule a c-section. I would much rather deliver naturally...but will do whatever is best for baby.
Anyways....that evening my contractions continued for a few more hours. I drank probably 2 gallons of water! And I was stressing because I wasn't packed for the hospital and still had a list of things to do before the baby comes. Luckily the contractions slowed down and eventually stopped. We are really feeling like that baby could come anytime - Luke was 1 week early so we won't be surprised if this baby comes early. We just hope he does a flip first. :)
